RADFORD BATTLES HOKIES IN FIRST ROAD MATCH OF THE SEASON

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The women's tennis squad stormed out of the gates early in singles play but came up just short against Virginia Tech Monday afternoon in a 5-2 final score.

Radford came out swinging against Virginia Tech in singles play taking early leads in set one on three courts. Katey Fruehauf led the charge taking the first set on court six in decisive fashion 6-1. Fruehauf eventually won that court coming from behind to win in the second set 6-3. Tyler Blalock followed suit on court four by battling in both sets to eventually seal up another point for the Highlanders 6-4, 6-4.

Alexis Cramer fought hard on court five initially grabbing a lead in the first set before eventually dropping it 4-6. Meanwhile on the higher courts, Radford battled hard in the first sets. Drousile Dzeubou took on Nika Kozar on court two who was a combined 4-1 on courts two and three this season. Dzeubou clawed back early in the first set but eventually fell 6-4 and then dropped the second set 6-1.

On court three Malin Falk made the first set close at a 3-4 score before her opponent pulled away and win 6-3, 6-1. Anastasia Belyaeva faced the Hokies best athlete on court one and came up short in her effort.

Back down to court five with the match already clinched for the Hokies, Cramer was unable to mount a comeback and the final score was sealed at 5-2.

Earlier in the day in doubles play the Highlanders made all three matches close but weren't able to convert. Belyaeva and Cramer came up short on court three 6-3 while Dzeubou and Blalock were in a 5-3 battle before it was stopped as the Hokies had already clinched the doubles point.

The Highlanders take a quick break before jumping right back into action for a road match against North Carolina Central on Wednesday.
