DONOVAN’S SOLID START NOT ENOUGH IN LOSS TO MERCER

MACON, Ga. – Redshirt senior starting pitcher Brandon Donovan tossed a career-high seven innings on Saturday, but Mercer scored five runs in the final three innings to defeat Radford, 6-1, at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Donovan struck out six and allowed four runs, with three coming in the sixth. The Pittsburgh native allowed seven hits and walked just one.

The Highlanders threatened to take an early lead in the first inning when Anthony Galati and Will Harless reached base on a single and a walk, respectively, but a double play ended the threat. Mercer then took the lead in the second inning on an error.

Radford tied the game in the fourth inning and had a chance to take the lead. The Highlanders loaded the bases with no outs on two errors and a Will Harless single, but a double play limited the scoring to one run.

Mercer's three-run sixth inning damage came with one out at the plate. The Bears had three hits, including a two-run double and an RBI single in consecutive at-bats, and never looked back. The Bears added a pair of runs in the eighth inning and closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Galati has three hits across the two games this series. Donovan's seven innings marked the longest start of his career and second straight game he worked into the seventh. Tanner Barrs stole second base in the fourth inning for his first career stolen base.
