NORFOLK, Va. – Radford (1-3) was bested by in-state foe Old Dominion (3-2) on Saturday afternoon in a 12-6 contest. The Highlander offense was paced by Margaret Gleason, Amanda Paino, and Katie Carroll.

The Monarchs were able to garner a pair of goals moments after the horn to commence the game, via a straight shot to the back of the net and a free position attempt. The Highlanders settled in and responded with a shot of their own but it was just wide of the goal. Radford would send up five more offerings before Gleason's goal, her first as a Highlander, found its way to the back of the net.

Old Dominion was tested offensively for the remainder of the opening period, as the Radford defense only gave up one addition goal. Conversely, the Highlanders were able to tie the match at three all heading into halftime, thanks to a man-up goal from Paino and a beaming strike to the back of net by Rinaldi.

In the second half, the Monarchs got off to a hot start notching seven goals spanning the opening 15 minutes of the period. A free position attempt taken by Carroll around the 7:48 mark was saved by Old Dominion goalkeeper Sabrina Leatherwood. But, that didn't stop the Highlanders who went right back to Carroll moments later, to score her first goal of the season and career. The man-up goal was just a taste of what was to come for the sophomore. She would score the final pair of goals for Radford off a free position shot and some crafty footwork in the waning moments of the contest.

Thanks to this uptick in offense, the Highlanders only trailed by four, 10-6. However, having given the Monarchs a scare, Old Dominion added a pair of insurance goals to conclude the matchup.

Maddie Bowman played the full 60 minutes in goal for the Highlanders and faced a total of 24 shots on goal for 12 saves.

Paino and Rinaldi have both scored in every game so far for Radford but one. Carroll set numerous career and season highs in every major category but one. Gleason joins fellow freshman Anna Ogan as the two Highlander newcomers with goals so far this season.

Glory Johnson paced the offense for Old Dominion with three goals in the matchup. She was a huge part of the six that scored for the Monarchs on the day.

STAT OF THE GAME
Radford took good care of the ball during this contest, and were able to disrupt Old Dominion for a total of 25 turnovers.
