RADFORD FALLS TO ELON IN CLOSE CONTEST

RADFORD, Va. – The Highlanders hosted first time foe—the Elon Phoenix—in Cupp Stadium, falling 6-11 on Tuesday evening. Radford had five with goals in the contest, as the offense was led by sophomore midfielder Grace Gleason

Elon got on the scoreboard first thanks to a pair of goals from Summer Larese, to take the early 2-1 lead. However, Radford's response came not even a minute later as Gleason ripped her offering to the back of the net unassisted.

After that, the scoring came in bunches for the Phoenix who would head into halftime having added seven more goals to their total. But, the Highlanders didn't go quietly into the break. Katie Carroll and Jennifer Shield both tallied goals to aid in Radford's comeback.

Gleason drew the first goal of the second half only a few minutes in, which naturally garnered a response from Elon's offense. Kirsten Grzybowski and Anna Ogan scored within 19 seconds of one another to bring Radford within four of the opposition.

A Phoenix goal around the three-minute mark put Elon's total at 11. However, the Highlanders launched up five more shots in the waning moments of the game but were unable to find the back of the net.

Gleason's two-piece is her seventh goal in five games played. Today's mark from Grzybowski was her first goal of the 2020 season. Shield has been on a terror lately, scoring in several of Radford's contests so far. Carroll has come alive down the stretch for the Highlanders and followed her phenomenal game at Old Dominion with this performance today.

Maddie Bowman has been consistent in goal for Radford and tied her career high in saves at 14 on the day.

For the Phoenix, Mae McGlynn's trifecta paced their offensive efforts as she was joined by five of her teammates en route to their total of 11 goals.

STAT OF THE GAME
Both teams ended the game with 18 total ground balls.
