RADFORD DROPS SERIES OPENER TO GEORGIA SOUTHERN

STATESBORO, Ga. – J.D. Mundy recorded his fourth multi-hit game of the season and Anthony Galati extended his hit streak to five games and his on-base streak to nine games on Friday night, but Georgia Southern defeated Radford, 8-0, at J.I. Clements Stadium.

Mundy singled in each of his last two at-bats, in the sixth inning and in the ninth. Galati drew a walk in the third and singled in the eighth.

Radford was forced into adversity early in the game, as starting pitcher Hunter Williams departed after facing just one batter. The Highlanders' combination of Derek Domecq, Andrew Boyd and Nick Breznak combined to record all 24 outs for Radford.

Georgia Southern took an early lead in the first, scoring two in the inning, and never looked back. The Eagles added one in the second before breaking the game open with two unearned runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth to make it 6-0.

The home side also got an effective start from pitcher Jordan Jackson, who went six innings and only allowed two hits. Jackson kept Radford hitless through the first 4 2/3 innings before Colby Higgerson singled to left center in the fifth.

Radford had a chance to put pressure on the Eagles in the eighth inning after a Higgerson reached on catcher's interference with one out and was followed by Galati's single, but a tough-luck double play ended the scoring threat. Georgia Southern plated a pair in the bottom half of the inning and closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Three of Mundy's four multi-hit games have come in the state of Georgia, as he had two hits in both the series opener and series finale at Mercer. Galati is the only Highlander to reach base safely in all nine games this season. Boyd allowed his first earned run of the season, but his ERA stands at 1.23, second-best on the team. Straton Podaras threw out his league-leading eighth base-stealer in the fifth inning.
