FOUR-RUN FIRST, LIGHTS-OUT PITCHING LEAD RADFORD OVER GEORGIA SOUTHERN

STATESBORO, Ga. – Radford batted around the order in the first inning, and the trio of Ryan Sande, Austin Gerber and Bruce Hudson allowed just three hits to lead the Highlanders past Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon, 4-2, at J.I. Clements Stadium.

The Highlanders took an early lead when Straton Podaras drove in Garrett Matheny with an RBI single three batters into the game. Radford added another run on Will Harless' ninth RBI of the season, a single that scored Podaras, to take a 2-0 lead five batters in.

Colby Higgerson doubled Radford's lead later in the inning when he drove in J.D. Mundy and Harless with a bases-loaded, two-run single. Those four runs were all the offense the Highlanders needed.

Sande was in full control on the mound, not allowing a hit through the first four innings while striking out a pair. The Eagles finally broke through for three hits and two runs in the fifth inning, but that was all the offense Georgia Southern would muster all game.

Gerber entered in relief of Sande in the sixth innings and cruised through the next three innings without allowing a baserunner, while striking out three. Hudson closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, adding a pair of strikeouts, to clinch the win and snap Radford's six-game losing streak.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Mundy recorded his second two-hit game of the series and fifth of the season. Anthony Galati extended his hit streak to five games and on-base streak to 10 games with an infield single in the second inning. Each of the first seven hitters in the Highlander lineup had at least one hit. Radford's bullpen did not allow a baserunner in four innings of work.
