HIGHLANDERS TAKE SERIES FROM BUCS BEHIND WILSON AND NUNLEY

CHARLESTON, S.C.—In round two of this Big South Conference matchup, Radford (11-11, 9-4 BSC) added their third series sweep after defeating Charleston Southern (3-19, 1-12 BSC) 64-40 on ESPN3. Makaila Wilson and Sydney Nunley scored a combined 29 points to aid in the Highlanders' victory. 
 
Wilson and Nunley were the lone double-digit scorers on the night. The sophomore's 15 points were close to her career high through her 23 minutes played. The senior center's 14 points came through her 25 minutes on the hardwood. Both ending the game shooting 41.7 percent from the floor. 
 
Radford notched double digit efforts in every period with an explosive 23-point fourth stanza. The defense held the opposition to single digits, with a low of five points in the second period, until Charleston Southern tallied 22-points in the fourth.
 
Radford held CSU to 12 points in the first half which is the same threshold the Bucs reached in the first matchup back on Saturday, Jan. 4th. The Highlanders were led by Wilson's nine points at the break, as she shot 60 percent from deep. The Bucs' offense struggled to get going as their scoring leader, Kelsie Ruff-Mills had four points. CSU was held to 16.7 percent shooting from the floor and 57.1 percent from the free throw line, but was without a three-pointer on four attempts. On the contrary, the Highlanders were 10-for-31 from the floor, drained five three-pointers, and were 54.5 percent from the charity stripe. 
 
The Buccaneers played a more efficient second half, posting six points in the third and 22 in the fourth. The Highlanders notched 10 and 23 respectively. 
 
To commence the final period of play, a steal by Jen Falconer found Khiana Johnson open for a three which put the lead up to 26 points. The Bucs battled back and mounted a nine-point rally to cut into the deficit, but Tina Lindenfeld's signature deep ball broke their stride. And, the Highlanders never looked back from there. 
 
Radford concluded the game shooting 32.8 percent from the field, 60 percent from the free throw line, and draining 10 three-pointers. The Highlanders were able to garner 12 second chance points and 12 points off CSU turnovers.
 
The Bucs were led by Big South preseason All-Conference selection Tierra Steede, who had 10 points, eight rebounds, and a block. She was the only Buccaneer to reach the double-digit mark on the night. CSU had a two-point lead but only in the first period around the 8:21 mark. The end stat line for Charleston Southern was 27.5 percent from the floor, 11.1 percent from deep, but an impressive 68.8 percent from the charity stripe. 
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHT 
Wilson's career high of 17 points was established earlier this year versus American. Tonight, she was only two points away from tying that total. Wilson ended the game with 15 points, a pair of rebounds and her newly set career high, four assists.
 
Nunley was a force down the stretch, even adding a few and-one plays. Her 14 points were paired with two assists, nine rebounds, and four made free throws.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Of the 12 Radford players to touch the floor tonight, 10 of them scored at least once. The reserves for the Highlanders posted 32 points and 24 rebounds.

The next stop on this two-game road trip is to Buies Creek, N.C. Radford will be in search of a redemptive victory against Campbell on Saturday, Feb. 15th at 2:00 p.m. back on ESPN+.
