NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Radford improved to 2-0 on this spring break conquest after downing Central Connecticut State on Monday evening, 12-7. The Highlanders were led by various performances including several goals from Katie Carroll and a career high 13 draw controls from Katie Bendrick.
Radford struck first, off the draw control from Bendrick the Highlander offense garnered its first goal from Bella Signorello. Off a free position shot, Carroll secured the early 2-0 lead for her team.
Central Connecticut responded with a 3-0 run to place themselves ahead of Radford by one with more than half of the period of play remaining. But Carroll, not to be trifled with, launched her second offering of the day to the back of the net and tied the contest at three all. Amanda Paino closed out the scoring for the first period with her 10th goal of the season. The Highlanders entered halftime leading 4-3.
With only a few minutes gone off the game clock, the Blue Devils handed the game its second tie of the day at four. But the Highlander response was immediate thanks to back-to-back goals from Jennifer Shield.
Central Connecticut attempted to work their way back into the contest but five different Radford student-athletes tallied goals for the final 12-7 winning cause. Grace Gleason's two goals paired with offerings from Paino, Brittany Rinaldi, Carroll, and Margaret Gleason.
The Blue Devils were held to only four goals in the second period, while the Highlanders doubled that offensive output.
