DEMI TARAMONLIS NAMED ITA ATLANTIC REGION ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

RADFORD, Va. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Monday that Demi Taramonlis won the ITA Rookie of the Year award for the Atlantic region, which includes schools from Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Taramonlis burst onto the scene last fall in doubles play, teaming up with Andres Silva to win the Big South Invite. From there he conquered a shortened spring season, winning eight of his nine games in the top flight for the Highlanders. His 8-1 record was tied for best in the Big South on court one and tied for the best record amongst all freshman. In doubles play, still with Silva, he went undefeated in the top spot once again for Radford with a 9-0 record overall with eight wins coming on court one. The duo's 15-1 overall record was best in the Big South.

Taramonlis was a key factor in the men's tennis program achieving one of its best starts to a season in recent history at 10-1. It was tied for the program's fastest climb to 10 wins, and now Taramonlis represents the Highlanders at the regional level as he looks to improve in his young career. Taramonlis has already collected awards such as freshman of the year from Radford Athletics' annual RUBY's award ceremony, and likely would've added more trophies to his name had the Big South season not ended prematurely.
