Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K slated for October 18-31

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K will be conducted October 18-31 and will serve as a fundraising opportunity for middle school and youth athletic programs in the Charlotte area.

Participants will have a two-week window to run or walk the race wherever they may be – on a track, local neighborhood, running trail, park, or a treadmill – then record and submit their time online.

Registration begins Monday, August 31, online at www.BigSouth5K.com. Entry fees for the event feature two packages – $30 (which includes a race t-shirt, bib, digital race bag) and $45 (deluxe package with medal and automatic entry into grand prize giveaway), and the first 100 registrants will receive a dust mask bandana courtesy of Hercules Tires. All runners registered by Oct. 4 will receive the official Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K race t-shirt and bib to wear during the Oct. 18-31 race weeks. Any registrants after Oct. 4 will receive their t-shirt and bib as processing and shipping permits.

The Big South's full membership will include 14 teams that will participate to help raise money for designated youth athletic programs in their respective local or regional communities. Each school team will have its own team-specific t-shirt and special digital race bag. The Big South's headquartered city of Charlotte, N.C., will serve as the 15th local team, and will benefit middle school athletics programs in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.), Union (N.C.), and York/Rock Hill (S.C.) school districts.

During the registration process, participants will have the option of selecting one of the 15 teams. As part of the Charlotte Team sign-up, a "middle school affiliation" option is available, and when a middle school is selected, proceeds from the participant's registration fee will be sent to the selected middle school's athletic booster club.

The annual Big South 5K was created in 2010 as a fundraiser for middle school athletic programs in Mecklenburg and Union Counties of North Carolina.
