BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Radford Men's Golf team tackled the Par 71, 6,867-yard course at Alamance Country Club on Monday, finishing -7 as a squad after two rounds of the Phoenix Invitational.
Â
Through 36 holes, the Highlanders sit in fourth place – just two strokes out of the top three.
Â
Senior Nicholas Taliaferro is pacing Radford so far, shooting 69 in both rounds to end the day tied for 8th at -4. The Richmond, Va. native tallied four birdies in the first round and followed it up with five in the second round.
Â
Bryce Corbett is up next on the individual leaderboard at -2, T-22nd. Corbett also shot a 69 to begin the day but dropped off slightly with a 71 in the second round.
Ryan Neil sank a pair of birdies in his final five holes to go back to even and move up to T-31st.
Â
Tyler Hull and Hayden Miller both finished the day tied for 34th at +1. Hull shot a first-round 73 and shaved three strokes off his score for a 70 in round two. Miller, making his debut in the starting lineup for the Highlanders following a Big South Player of the Week selection, was consistent throughout the day and really shined on the 6th hole with an eagle.
Â
Noteworthy in the tournament is that Big South newcomer North Carolina A&T is being represented by former NBA star J.R. Smith, who returned to college and joined the collegiate golf scene. The 16-year pro basketball player shot 19-over par and is in 81st out of 84 competitors.
