BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Radford Men's Golf team tackled the Par 71, 6,867-yard course at Alamance Country Club on Monday, finishing -7 as a squad after two rounds of the Phoenix Invitational.
Through 36 holes, the Highlanders sit in fourth place – just two strokes out of the top three.
Senior
Nicholas Taliaferro is pacing Radford so far, shooting 69 in both rounds to end the day tied for 8
th at -4. The Richmond, Va. native tallied four birdies in the first round and followed it up with five in the second round.
Bryce Corbett is up next on the individual leaderboard at -2, T-22
nd. Corbett also shot a 69 to begin the day but dropped off slightly with a 71 in the second round.
Ryan Neil sank a pair of birdies in his final five holes to go back to even and move up to T-31st.
Tyler Hull and
Hayden Miller both finished the day tied for 34
th at +1. Hull shot a first-round 73 and shaved three strokes off his score for a 70 in round two. Miller, making his debut in the starting lineup for the Highlanders following a Big South Player of the Week selection, was consistent throughout the day and really shined on the 6
th hole with an eagle.
Noteworthy in the tournament is that Big South newcomer North Carolina A&T is being represented by former NBA star J.R. Smith, who returned to college and joined the collegiate golf scene. The 16-year pro basketball player shot 19-over par and is in 81
st out of 84 competitors.
