Marshall Scores 11 in Highlanders Loss at No. 22 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Radford Women's Basketball program fell at No. 22 West Virginia on Sunday afternoon. Destinee Marshall was the highlight of the afternoon offensively, scoring 11 points, all in the first half.

West Virginia burst out the gates to a 9-0 lead against Radford, a lead they wouldn't forfeit the full 40 minutes. Taiye Johnson got Radford on the board midway through the first with a layup. Marshall also scored her first five points of the day on a jumper and three-pointer while Ashley Tudor sank a free throw to account for Radford's eight points in the first.

Marshall scored another six points to reach her 11-point total in the second quarter. In the second half, Radford found offensive production from Jackie Christ who nailed two nice shots. In the fourth quarter Radford scored via shots from Danielle Montelbano, as well as Tudor continuing to create free throw opportunities in the final five minutes of the game.

Bryonna McClean battled through foul trouble all day to help Radford out on the boards, tying for the team lead in rebounds with Tudor as the pair collected five each. Six different Highlanders also recorded steals in the game as the team forced West Virginia to commit 15 turnovers.

QUOTABLE
"We played a great West Virginia team today, I think they're capable of making a run in the NCAA Tournament. I talked to our team post game about learning to fight, learning to concentrate and overcoming adversity. We didn't handle things very well but we're going to fix it when we get back to Radford. We just have to figure out how to grow from this." -Head Coach Mike McGuire

NEXT UP
The Highlanders will move their attention to next Wednesday when they return to the friendly confines of the Dedmon Center to host Lees-McRae at 2 p.m.
