RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Monday, February 15th and Sunday, February 21st.

 SOFTBALL


at Winthrop Kickoff Tournament
Sunday, Feb. 21st | vs. Bowling Green – 10 a.m. & Stony Brook – Noon

  • Radford (0-5) didn't begin the season how it wanted dropping all five contests at the Buzz Classic. The first two came against Georgia State, the next two against Georgia Tech and the fifth against Boise State on Sunday.
  • Sydney Fisher has a team-leading three hits, while freshmen Taylor Breidt and Paityn Moore earned their first collegiate hits in the Buzz Classic.
  • Hannah Morris only allowed one earned run in three relief appearances this season. She leads the team with a 1.11 ERA.
  • Stony Brook will open its season this weekend and Bowling Green enters with a 3-1 record after a four-game series with Cleveland State.
  • This will be Radford's first meeting between Stony Brook and Bowling Green.

  • The Sherisa Livingston and Greg Manos started off on a two-game winning streak for the Highlanders, sweeping the Runnin' Bulldogs. 
  • Radford fell versus Charleston Southern, who took the season series to improve to a perfect 4-0. 
  • Presbyterian has started off the season off slowly, but notched their first win of the season in game two against Gardner-Webb in a 3-1 decision. 
 MEN'S SOCCER

  • Interim head coach Chris Barrett makes his managerial debut Wednesday evening when Radford opens its season against former Big South rival Liberty.
  • The opening match will also mark assistant coach John White's debut on the sidelines as well. White is also a member of the Radford Athletics Hall of Fame.
  • Radford was picked eighth in the Big South preseason poll and returns six starters from its 2019 team, including goalkeer Joseba Incera, defender Octavio Ocampo and midfielder Pape Oumar Gueye.
  • Ocampo was a Second Team All-Big South and Big South All-Freshman Team selection in 2019 after posting four goals and three assists for 11 points, which leads all returning players.
  • Gueye had a team-leading six assists for the Highlanders last season, a mark which ranked fifth in the Big South last season.
  • Liberty is already off to a 2-0-0 start with wins over Belmont Abbey and Davidson, while USC Upstate has yet to play a game this season and will kick off its slate on Wednesday against South Carolina.
  • Michael Huss leads Liberty with a pair of goals this season
  • Radford is 17-19-7 in the Division I era against Liberty. The Highlanders are also a perfect 3-0-0 against USC Upstate and have outscored the Spartans 8-2 across the three games.
 
 WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • Radford dominated the field and possession in an 8-0 rout over Roanoke College on Sunday.
  • The Highlanders had eight different goal scorers and took 20 shots.
  • It was the first time Radford scored eight goals since the season opener in 2011 against Southern Virginia.
  • Presbyterian dropped a 2-1 exhibition match to Western Carolina on Sunday.
  • Junior Kori Lawrence scored the lone goal for the Blue Hose in the 22nd minute while Megan Serrano recorded seven saves in just 47 minutes in net.

  • The Highlanders took the field of competition for the first time since the cancellation against (#10) Richmond, falling in a 10-19 decision. 
  • A hat trick from senior captain Jen Shield paced the offense with four other Highlanders notching goals in the contest. 
  • Coastal has yet to start the season with Radford as their season opener at Clover Memorial Stadium. 
 
 MEN'S GOLF
 

at Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate - Monday, Feb. 22 - Tuesday, Feb. 23

  • Radford begins its spring season in sunny South Carolina when it takes part in the Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate.
  • The tournament is the first of four events that will take place in South Carolina for the Highlanders.
  • Radford returns four of its five starters from last season, including seniors Hunter Duncan and Tyler Hull, who were second and third on the team in stroke average a year ago.
  • The Highlanders also return Nicholas Taliaferro and Andrew Kennedy, who teamed up to win the VSGA Four-Ball Championship in the fall.
  • Radford is one of five Big South teams in the tournament field, joined by Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian and Winthrop.

at Roanoke College Division I Invitational - Saturday, Feb. 20

  • The Highlanders will close out their 2021 indoor season with a quick trip to Roanoke, Va. for the Roanoke College DI Invitational.
  • Taylor Tinsley matched her indoor personal best mark in the high jump two weeks ago at the Brant Tolsma Invite.
  • Maddie Wright also set a new personal record in the 60-meter hurdles while Breauna Lane edged out her previous personal best-time in the 400-meter.
  • Competition will primarily take place on Friday as many Highlanders look to leave a strong final mark on the indoor season.
