CLOVER, S.C. – The Radford (0-2) women's lacrosse team traveled to face Coastal Carolina (1-0) in a neutral site contest, falling in a 17-3 decision on the evening.
Clear attempts for both teams were successful in the early goings, but neither were able to find the back of the net. The Chanticleers were held scoreless until 27:05 when they doubled up their offensive output. With nearly back-to-back goals, Coastal Carolina added a pair more goals to take the early 4-0 lead over Radford.
The defensive intensity for the Highlanders picked up down the stretch causing a total of 10 turnovers, with goalkeeper Maddie Bowman pacing the effort with five saves. Thus, a scoring drought ensued for Coastal which spanned nearly 14 minutes. With time running in the opening period, the Gleason sisters went to work. Grace scored the first goal for Radford with her sister Margaret following closely behind moments later. Heading into halftime the Highlanders had cut into the Chanticleers' lead at 2-5.
Jen Shield is now on a two-game scoring streak, cracking open the scoring with just a few ticks off the clock in the second period. Her goal pushed Radford to three goals and narrowed the deficit to only two. Coastal mounted a rally of 12 goals in the second stanza.
Bowman concluded the contest with eight saves.
