McGuire Reaches 100-Wins on Kyanna Morgan’s Buzzer Beating Three

RADFORD, Va. – Head Coach Mike McGuire's milestone 100th Big South Conference victory came in thrilling fashion inside the Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon. Kyanna Morgan's buzzer beating three-pointer propelled Radford (7-10, 7-8 BSC) over Charleston Southern (6-15, 4-13 BSC) in an electrifying 74-73 win.

Coming into the decisive fourth period, the two teams traded baskets immediately. With Ashley Tudor's three-pointer cutting the Buccaneer lead to only two, 57-55. And offensive onslaught had commenced for the Highlanders. Destinee Marshall's paint jumper and a successful trip to the free throw line for Morgan put Radford within striking distance of one point. However, Charleston Southern broke their scoring drought thanks to a deep ball from Sharita Godfrey. Tudor responded with an and-one to shift the momentum to the home team. Splitting free throws was the Buccaneers, leaving room for Tina Lindenfeld's signature three-pointer which turned the tide and the lead to the Highlanders.

Bryonna McClean's free throws pushed the lead to three but a Charleston Southern jumper would bring to one. Marshall launched up a three of her own to make the score 70-66, but the Buccaneers responded with one of their own in addition to a paint jumper to retake the lead at 71-70. Morgan's split trip at the charity stripe tied the game up at 71 all with only six seconds remaining. Free throws for Charleston Southern's Alyssia Faye with four seconds to go, allowed the visitors to retake the lead by two. Radford called a timeout with a two-point deficit.

Lindenfeld was the inbounder on the out of bounds play and sprinting off the Taiye Johnson screen was Morgan who banked her off-balance, landing with her left leg first, three-point shot to win the game with time expiring.

The Highlander would emerge victorious after being down at the half 39-33. Radford only scored 13-points in the opening stanza but matched Charleston Southern's 20-point total in the second period. The Buccaneers were held to only 13-points while the Highlanders tacked on 17 en route to the 24-point fourth period.

Charleston Southern ended the contest with four in double digits, led by Faye's double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.
