Late Rally Sends Ohio Past Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Ohio scored six runs across the seventh and eighth innings, Edward Kutt IV struck out five in five innings of relief and the visiting Bobcats edged Radford in Sunday's series finale, 7-5, at Williams Field at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.

Ryan Bywaters struck out a career-high eight in his first start of the season for the Highlanders, allowing just one unearned run in five innings of work. Ohio scored six runs off Radford's bullpen.

The Highlanders took an early lead in the first inning, as Anthony Galati opened the scoring for the second straight day with a two-run double down the right field line. Radford then extended its lead in the fourth on Sean Cheely's first hit of the season, an RBI single to right.

Ohio got a run back in the fifth on a Radford throwing error, but the Highlanders responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Dac Archer hit an RBI triple down the line in right field, then scored on a Connor Bagnieski RBI single to left.

The Bobcats struck for five in the seventh, using a Joe Weisenseel two-run single up the middle and a Tanner Piechnick two-run double to left to take their first lead of the series. A Spencer Harbert single was the hit that gave Ohio the lead, one the Bobcats never relinquished.

Ohio added another run on a squeeze play in the eighth, and Kutt shut down the Radford offense by not allowing a baserunner in the final four innings to preserve the win for the visitors.

Andrew Boyd was tagged for the loss after allowing three runs in 2/3 of an inning. Brock Smith also made his first appearance in a Highlander uniform, allowing three runs in 1 1/3 innings.
