
Highlanders Take Series Opener at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – A strong starting effort on the mound by Tyler Bowes led to the Radford baseball team's 3-1 series opening win over High Point on Friday night.

Bowes earned his first start on the mound and provided 4.2 of shutout baseball. He also struck out two and only allowed three hits on 73 pitches.

The freshman was able to get some early offense as Connor Bagnieski and Will Harless plated runs in the fourth and fifth innings. After David Bryant scored his second run of the game on a wild pitch in the seventh inning, High Point answered with a run that was scored on a double steal in the seventh, putting the game at 3-1.

Bowes eventually gave way to Derek Domecq, who allowed a run in 1.2 innings of work. Bruce Hudson tossed 1.1 innings of shutout baseball and Alex Perkins recorded a huge out entering in the eighth inning with the bases loaded.

The Panthers threatened with a combined four base runners in the eighth and ninth inning but Perkins earned his second save of the season.

Bagnieski led the way with three of Radford's seven hits with a 3-for-4 night. He had one of two RBIs for the team. Along with scoring two runs, David Bryant went 2-for-4 with the team's only other multi-hit performance.

Up Next
The victory gives Radford its first conference win of the season. The squad will be back in action for a 1 p.m., doubleheader on Saturday against High Point.
