Offensive Outburst Pushes Radford Past Winthrop

RADFORD, Va. – It was a solid offensive performance from the Radford men's soccer team that led to a 4-1 victory over Winthrop inside Cupp Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Highlanders scored three goals in the first half and carried a 3-0 lead into the locker room at the end of the first 45 minutes. The scoring began in the 20' when Baye Djibril Faye passed to Max-Emilios Angelides and took off towards the goal. Angelides found Faye just outside the box and he finished for the score.

Just six minutes later, the Highlanders increased their lead to two with a strike by Dondre Robinson outside of the 18-yard box. 15 minutes later, Pape Oumar Gueye found Toby Squire on a corner kick. Squire headed it in for his first career-goal giving the Highlanders a 3-0 lead. Radford had nine shots to Winthrop's four in the first half.

Faye earned his first career multi-goal game after converting a penalty kick in the 67'. He ended the game with a career-high five points.

Winthrop got one back in the 82' after Radford's back line stopped playing after the team was searching for an offside that wasn't called. The final eight minutes were a little chippy but only saw one shot from the Eagles. Winthrop had nine shots in the second half.

Joseba Incera tallied five saves, while Angelides earned the third multi-assist game of his career and second this season.
