Radford Blanks Gardner-Webb for Series Opening Victory

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.Abby Wilson's three hit and RBI day carried the Radford softball team past Gardner-Webb, 6-0, on Friday night in a series opening victory.

Wilson was able to get the scoring started in the first inning with a two-run home run that plated Talia Douglas. The script was almost identical in the third inning as Wilson pushed across Douglas again, this time with a single.

The fourth Highlander run came in the fourth inning as Paityn Moore scored Autumn Slemaker with a sac fly to right field. Slemaker has been on a tear lately and was the other Highlander with a three-hit night.

Lindsay Hunter notched her third RBI in as many games with a two-run single in the fifth inning that allowed Slemaker to score for the second time. Destiny Freeman also scored a run. That created a 6-0 lead for Radford.

Meanwhile Jessie Marvin closed out the fifth inning and gave way to Sarah Smith for the final two frames. Marvin only allowed four hits and struck out six and Smith didn't allow a hit and struck out two in two innings of work.

Every player except for one that had a plate appearance put a tally beside their name in the hit column. As a team, Radford totaled 14 hits. 13 of the 14 hits were singles as Wilson's home run was the only extra base hit for the Highlanders. Douglas and Sydney Fisher each had multi-hit games as both went 2-for-4.
