Radford Picks Up Crucial Victory at UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Radford (4-7, 2-1 BSC) went on the road and picked up a big conference win against UNC Asheville (5-6, 2-2 BSC) Saturday afternoon.

The day began with a huge doubles point in a match that ended up being close late. Tyler Blalock and Katey Fruehauf made quick work of their opponent on court three 6-1 to give Radford the edge. Malin Falk and Emily Brandow then clinched the doubles point on court two winning 6-3. Salma Loudili and Melissa Ifidzhen were up 4-3 on court one before play stopped.

After UNC Asheville tied the match headed into singles play at one-all with a win on court two, Falk gave the lead back to Radford with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win on court three. Brandow also added a no-doubter on court four, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

With the lead at 3-1, Loudili clinched the match for Radford with an impressive showing on the top court. Loudili overcame dropping the second set and won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and the match was clinched. UNC Asheville did claim the last two singles courts, but it wouldn't change the overall result of the match.

The freshman Loudili now leads the team and other freshmen in the conference with seven singles victories, two of those wins now coming on court one. Blalock and Fruehauf are still leading the team in doubles play with their 7-3 record on court three.
