Fisher’s Four-Hit Day Leads to Win Over USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sydney Fisher went 4-for-4 with a career-high three doubles and drove in two runs and led the Radford softball team to a 6-2 win over USC Upstate on Saturday afternoon.
 
The victory for the Highlanders put them atop the Big South standings and handed the Spartans their first conference loss of the season. Fisher wasn't the only one that had a solid outing as Jessie Marvin only allowed two runs – one earned for a complete game performance and her fifth win of the season.
 
Radford gave her some runs early and took a 3-0 lead through the first two innings highlighted by Fisher's RBI double to center field in the second inning. The Highlanders added to their lead with two runs in the sixth inning. Autumn Slemaker hit a solo home run and Fisher hit her second RBI double, which gave Radford a 5-0 lead.
 
The Spartans answered with two runs of their own in the sixth but Destiny Freeman gave the Highlanders an insurance run they didn't need with an RBI doubled of her own in the seventh inning.
 
Madison Canady, Riley Oakes and Slemaker had multi-hit games with two hits each. Abby Wilson, Freeman, Canady and Slemaker each had one RBI to go along with Fisher's two.
 
Up Next
The Highlanders will look to win the series and potentially earn the sweep on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
