HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Highlanders competed in a long day of competition notching multiple record book placements, personal records, and one new school record thanks to Rachel Millirons' performance in the 3k.
"Overall, we had a very solid weekend across the board," commented director of track and field Shelli Sayers. "Everyone set or competed close to their season bests as we came away with several all-time marks which is exactly what we want this time of year."
The biggest mark of the day came in the 3k where Millirons set a new program record with a 9:56.54 time. MegAnne Gilmore also set a personal record in the same event, putting herself eighth all-time in the record book. Rachel Werking added to her impressive outdoor season so far with a season best in the 1500m which ranks sixth in program history.
"Millirons is continuing down the path as one of the best to wear a Highlander uniform," added Sayers. "I'm so proud of her and what she did today on the track."
Talasjah Weathersby followed up the distance runners with a record book time of her own in the 100-meter. Felicia Hewitt also put herself into the all-time list for the 200-meter event with an impressive run, while Karah Foster rounded out the sprinters' day with a mark that is currently seventh in the Big South.
On the field side of competition there wasn't a lack of program-best times either. Maddie Wright and Makayla Jones put their names in the record book with their marks in the javelin throw.
Ending the night was Kayland Bond in the steeplechase, her first appearance in the event in two years. Bond showed no rust, though, placing sixth overall.
