Highlanders Record Strongest Three-Round Big South Championship Finish in Program History

Ninety Six, S.C. – The Radford men's golf program had their best placement in program history at the Big South Championships through three rounds this week, as they finished tied for first with Campbell and Longwood at 282-277-289 (-4). This advanced Radford into match play where they will play Longwood tomorrow at 8 a.m.

Day One
On the first day of competition the Highlanders competed in the first round of the tournament and immediately set the tone shooting 282 at 2-under. Hunter Duncan started off his fantastic three rounds with a team-best 2-under and a team best five birdies through the first round.

Patrick Gareiss also played quite well at 1-under, shooting even through most of the 18 holes while recording three birdies. Freshman Bryce Corbett finished with three straight birdies on the last three holes while Tyler Hull had the third-best start to the tournament on the team at 1-over and four birdies.

After the first round the Highlanders as a team sat in third place. Individually, Duncan was tied for fourth among all competitors. Gareiss wasn't far behind tied for seventh overall and Taliaferro also was top-20 with his tied for 14th finish. Duncan played an insanely great round with birdies in 10 of the 18 holes, shooting a total 7-under to move into tied for second among all competitors.

Day Two
The second day of competition played host to the second round of the tournament where the Highlanders played one of their best rounds all season. The team shot 277 at 7-under bumping them into second place out of the nine teams.
 
Hull also recorded five birdies to finish at 1-under in the round which was the second-best round by the Highlanders that day. Gareiss rebounded from a tough start to finish even while Corbett used a strong first nine holes to finish at 1-over as well.

Day Three
On the final day of round play, Radford finished strong enough to tie for first and advance to match play. The team shot 289 at 5-over, which was the second-best round among the three first place teams.

The number of birdies cooled off for the team, but all five players competed around even. Duncan finished his three rounds at 7-under which tied him for second place among all competitors. Gareiss also finished within the top-10 shooting even, with a tied for team best 1-over third round.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders now move on to match play where they will play Longwood who placed third after a tiebreaker decided by the teams' seedings before entering the tournament. Tee time is set for 8:05 a.m., starting on the tenth hole.
