Marvin’s Strong Outing Not Enough at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jesse Marvin's spun six quality innings of just two run ball Tuesday night at Virginia, but the Highlanders came up just short in a 2-1 ballgame.

The Cavaliers would get their two runs in the first and fourth innings of the game. Marvin never gave up any hard contact, allowing just the one double on the night. The Highlanders wouldn't get their first hit of the night until the third inning when Lindsay Hunter and Sidney Fisher both picked up singles. Radford had runners on the corners but couldn't convert it to runs.

Radford's next offensive burst came with two outs in the sixth inning to attempt a late comeback. Talia Douglas singled followed by a Madison Canady single which put runners on the corners once again and forced a Virginia pitching change. This time Destiny Freeman came up clutch for Radford, driving in Douglas with a single of her own.

That was all the offense for the inning, though, and the game as the Highlanders were held scoreless in the final frame to seal the game.

Five Highlanders recorded singles, with Freeman's being the biggest adding her 16th RBI of the season. The offensive production was limited to just those hits as Virginia committed just one error on the night and gave no free bases via walks.

Marvin was similarly efficient for Radford in the circle. While only recording two strikeouts she gave up just the one walk on the night. The Cavaliers threatened with runners in scoring position multiple times, but Marvin did not budge for the most part giving up eight hits to just two runs.
