Highlanders Run-Rule Presbyterian in Series-Deciding Game

RADFORD, VA. – It was an early morning, but the Highlander bats were awake as the Radford softball team defeated Presbyterian, 8-0, in a series deciding game on Saturday morning at Radford Softball Stadium.

Picking up where she left off from a night ago, Jessie Marvin retired the first four batters, putting her streak at 19 Blue Hose retired in a row. She allowed a one-out single in the second inning that broke the streak. Despite the hit, Marvin only allowed two more hits and earned her second shutout of the series. She struck out four and walked two on just 77 pitches.

The offense was awake early as Autumn Slemaker hit an RBI triple in the second inning and scored the next at-bat when Abby Wilson drove her in with a double. Wilson tallied two doubles in a 2-for-3 day with two RBIs.

Talia Doulas also had a two-hit day going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Her two-run shot came in the third inning and put Radford ahead, 4-0.

Destiny Freeman led the way with three RBIs and it all came on one swing of the bat. She hit a shot over the trees in left field and plated three in the fifth inning. Radford only needed one run to end the game in five innings and it came on Wilson's second double. She had a near identical at-bat in the fifth inning as she did in the seventh inning. This one was hit down the left field line and it also scored Slemaker, who reached on a walk.

The win gave Radford its ninth Big South victory and third conference series victory of the season.
