Radford Cruises to Dominant Win Over Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Radford (2-9, 1-1 BSC) had three players record hat tricks in a dominant performance from start to finish at Gardner-Webb (3-6, 1-2 BSC) Saturday night.

Gardner-Webb did grab two leads early in the match, but it was the only two times they would lead all night. Lindsey Carroll recorded her first of four goals to equalize the game at 1-1, and Grace Gleason equalized it again at 2-2. Ava Goeller provided the 3-2 lead at 19:13 left in the first half, a lead that held for the remainder of the match.

The Highlander offense continued to power through the first half as Carlie Rosenburg scored her first goal of the season to make it a 4-2 lead. The goal fueled a 4-0 run for Radford, as Jessica Diorio scored and Caroll added two more goals to her total. Gardner-Webb got off one more goal with 50 seconds left before the half ended, to make it a 7-3 lead. The four-point lead is Radford's biggest lead headed into halftime this season.

After the Runnin' Bulldogs made it a 7-4 game early in the second half, Radford responded with a 3-0 run to extend their lead. Diorio and Goeller scored their second goals of the game while Carroll scored her fourth goal of the game with 22:17 remaining.

It wasn't the final run of the night either, as Radford didn't wait long to put together another 3-0 run. G. Gleason scored twice while Margaret Gleason supplied the assists twice to fuel the run, as Goeller found her third goal for a hat trick. With eight minutes remaining in the half, Kirsten Grzybowski joined the scoring party to make it a 14-7 game. Gardner-Webb scored twice but it was for naught as Radford came away with the 14-9 win.

The team won the turnover battle 15-25 with Rachel Rogers forcing a team-high three of them. Radford also out-shot Gardner-Webb 36-17 which is the biggest margin by far they have out-shot their opponent this season. The team also picked up 29 ground balls to Gardner-Webb's 14, with Grzybowski leading all players with four.

Carroll is now up to 19 goals this season, a team-high, and recently became the fifth Highlander in program history to reach the 100-goal milestone. At 104 goals she trails former Highlander Juliette Ruland by five goals for fourth place all-time. Katie Bendrick also caused one turnover today pushing her career total to 56 which is just two shy of the program record.
