Solid Effort Falls Short as Radford Falls to James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Radford softball team fell to James Madison on a Tuesday doubleheader. The Highlanders dropped the first game 6-2 and the second 3-0.

Game 1
The Highlanders fell victim to a walk-off grand slam in game one of the day. Radford took an early lead thanks to a Talia Douglas home run in the first inning. Jessie Marvin was rolling with just one base runner through two innings.

She allowed her second base runner in the third inning that came around to score and tied the game. Radford took the lead in the next inning after manufacturing a run and took a 2-1 lead.

James Madison tied it back up with an RBI double by Madison Naujokas in the sixth inning. After an out in the seventh inning the Dukes loaded the bases and Kate Gordon ended the game with a grand slam to left center field. It was her lone hit of the game.

The Highlanders led with seven hits but left seven players on base. Lindsay Hunter had the only multi-hit game for Radford with a 2-for-3 day. The top of the order had four of the seven hits as the one through four hitters had a hit each.

Game 2
Skyler DeHart got the nod in game two of the day and only allowed three runs on five hits with three strikeouts. However, she wasn't the best performer in the circle.

JMU's Alissa Humphrey struck out 10 and only allowed one walk with no hits. She earned her seventh win of the season.

The Highlanders were able to get a pair of base runners aboard in the first inning when Talia Douglas was hit by a pitch and Abby Wilson reached on a wild pitch after striking out. The inning ended one at-bat later.

That was the only time Radford had two base runners aboard at the same time. They got two players on in the fifth inning after Autumn Slemaker reached on an error but was thrown out trying to steal second. Lindsay Hunter then drew a walk but another strikeout ended the threat.

Douglas was hit by her second pitch of the game in the sixth inning but Humphrey's 10th and final strikeout ended the inning.
