Radford Falls in Doubleheader to Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Radford baseball team fell in a doubleheader to Longwood on Saturday afternoon. The Highlanders fell 7-3 in the first game and 6-4 in the second.

Game 1
Longwood tallied four runs in the eighth inning with the game tied at three to earn the series victory.

Radford tied the game in the third inning after the Lancers struck first in the first inning. Connor Bagnieski tied the game with an RBI single.

David Bryant tied it up once again after Longwood went up 2-1 in the fourth inning with an RBI double and he came around to score on a Straton Podaras single to center field.

Longwood later tied the game at thee in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Eliot Dix singled to left field. That began a spurt of five unanswered runs. The Lancers took advantage of the Highlanders being unable to cash in a run with four of their own in the eighth.

Greg Duncan earned the start and picked up a quality start with 7.0 innings pitched and seven strikeouts with only three earned runs allowed.

Podaras went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI. Bryant had the other multi-hit games for the Highlanders and scored two of the three runs for Radford.

Game 2
Radford fell behind and scored four unanswered but it wasn't enough as the Highlanders fell, 6-4.

Longwood scored six runs through six innings but the Highlanders answered with a pair of runs in the seventh. Jalen Buster drove in a run and then Anthony Galati drove in another with a double down the left field line.

Radford answered with a couple more runs in the ninth with a two-run single by Sean Cheely. Radford had the game-tying run on second base but a fly out to right field ended the game.

The Highlanders used four pitchers as Alex Perkins tossed three innings with three strikeouts. Bruce Hudson had three strikeouts in two innings pitched.

Garrett Matheny, David Bryant and Will Harless each had multi-hit games. Cheely had the only multi-RBI game.
