Highlanders Fall to Campbell in Series Opener

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford baseball team fell to Campbell,12-6, on Friday night in at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.
 
The Highlanders fell victim to a seven-run seventh inning that was too much to overcome.
 
Campbell scored four runs through the first three innings and added another in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. Radford strung together four runs on three hits and took advantage of two errors in the sixth inning. Anthony Galati, Will Harless and Garrett Matheny each drove in a run and David Bryant scored on an error by the right fielder.
 
The four-run inning made it a 5-4 game, until Campbell answered with seven in the top of the seventh. Five of the seven runs came off a pair of home runs and the other two came from an RBI double.
 
The Highlanders scored two in the ninth but the deficit to was too far out of reach. Bryant led the way with a 3-for-4 night including a triple. Galati and Matheny each tallied two hits, a double and an RBI. Podaras had the other multi-hit game and scored two of the six runs.
 
Stom Mace saw his first action of the 2021 season and earned his first career strikeout. He only allowed one hit in two innings of work.
 
Up Next
Radford will look to bounce back with a pair of contests against Campbell with the first beginning at 1 p.m.
