Highlanders Fall to Campbell in Sunday Doubleheader

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford softball team dropped a pair of close games to Campbell on Sunday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. The Highlanders tried to even the series but was unable to overcome a two-run deficit in a 3-1 game one loss. Radford fell to the Camels in the series finale, 7-6, via a walk-off.

Game 1
Sydney Fisher gave Radford a 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run. That was all the runs scored until the sixth inning when Campbell scratched off three. Fisher had two of Radford's five hits.

Meanwhile, on the defensive end, Skyler DeHart was cruising with just two hits through five innings. She only walked one and struck out one. She ended with 5.1 innings pitched

The Camels scored each of their runs on three different at-bats in the sixth inning and took a 3-1 lead. Riley Oakes came in to close it out and tossed the final 0.2 innings.

Game 2
Madison Canady got things started with a boom in game two of the day. She plated Sydney Fisher and Riley Oakes with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. The Highlanders scored at least one run in the first inning in each game of the series.

Fisher added to the lead in the second inning after the Camels scored a run in the bottom of the first. The senior doubled to left center field and plated Autumn Slemaker.

The Camels tied the game in the third and took a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning, but Radford came back to take a 6-5 lead. Abby Wilson plated Canady with the game-tying run in the sixth and Talia Douglas drove in Kyndall Stanley on a successful suicide squeeze attempt as Stanley slid under the tag in the top of the seventh.

Campbell tallied three hits and scored two runs in the seventh inning. Kayla Fredendall tallied her second hit of the day and scored Claire Blount for the seventh and final run.

Radford had nine hits and Fisher had three of them with a pair of doubles. Wilson also tallied a double and Canady had the lone Highlander home run. The top five hitters in the batting order had at least one hit. Canady led all players with three RBIs.
