
Exciting Commonwealth Clash Ends in Tie for Women’s Soccer

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford women's soccer team tied with Longwood in an exciting match Thursday night, netting two great come-from-behind goals to force overtime and the eventual tie.
Longwood opened the scoring to gain a 1-0 lead, but the freshman Kat Parris responded in the 21st minute to tie the game up at one early in the first half. Parris was able to find the net thanks to a great offensive push by Kayla Thomas and feed from Brianna Oliver.
Longwood scored again just five minutes later to retake a 2-1 lead in an offensive outburst that saw three goals scored by the two teams over a six-minute span. Longwood would hold onto that 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Highlanders came out of halftime applying a lot of pressure on the Lancers and the aggressiveness paid off in the 71st minute. Maevyn Jones placed a beautiful shot off a pass from the head of Katie Oliver. The crucial goal was Jones' third of the year which is tied for fourth best on the team.
The Radford offense continued to apply pressure while the defense remained stout to close out the second half. In both overtime periods Radford had multiple good looks at the net, but Longwood was able to keep Radford off the board and finalize a 2-2 tie.
