Radford Drops First Conference Match in Thriller at Campbell
9/26/2021 8:07:00 PM | Women's Soccer
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford women's soccer team fell to Campbell 3-4 on Sunday night, their first loss early in the conference season.
Campbell controlled a lot of the offensive pace of the first half, but the Highlanders reclaimed some of that in the second half thanks to some strong energy coming from the bench. It was Kayla Thomas who broke the ice for Radford, heading in her first goal of the season thanks to a great pass from Lily McLane who continues to fuel the Radford offense.
Thomas was able to find the net again to bring Radford within one in the 77th minute after a crazy sequence of events. Helena Willson ripped off a great shot that rang off the crossbar but found the head of Thomas who scored the second goal of the game for Radford.
Campbell scored minutes later to extend their lead back to two, but the Highlanders refused to give up. Kat Parris passed a perfect pass into the box for Brianna Oliver who sent it into the back of the net and brought it back to a one-goal game.
The final ten minutes of the match were played intensely by both sides as both teams had good looks to continue the offensive outburst, but the Camels would ultimately hold on to win 4-3.
KEY STATS
"That was an exciting game. I thought both teams played well and it was very competitive. We have to improve on defensive set pieces. I really loved our fight on the road against a quality side. We look forward to playing at home after two tough road trips." – Head Coach Ben Sohrabi.
UP NEXT
Radford will look to get back to the win column with a home match against Gardner-Webb this Wednesday.
