ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Radford Volleyball team made things interesting in the final two sets but ultimately fell, 3-0, to Winthrop on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles were in control throughout the first set, riding an 11-2 run to extend its lead to as many as 11. Radford struggled to generate offense, connecting on just six kills, and dropped the set 25-16.
It was a much better effort from the Highlanders in the second set. The visitors rode a hot streak from
Kennedi Johnson and
Hailey Flowers to hold a 20-19 lead late in the round. The hosts charged back with a 6-2 run to end it and gain a 2-0 advantage.
The third set was equally as close, coming down to final moments. The Highlanders looked strong, taking a 15-11 lead as they tried to fight their way back into the match. But Winthrop managed to overpower Radford from that point forward, going on a 10-2 run. Radford grabbed a couple of points back at the end before the Eagles clinched the game and match.
With the loss, Radford moves to 2-12 overall and 0-2 in Big South play.
