BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford Women's Basketball program fell at Campbell 58-41 on Saturday afternoon. All eight players that logged court time for the Highlanders scored and pulled down a rebound. Carmen Williams had a career day on the boards with seven rebounds while Alyssa Chapman and Bridget Birkhead led the scoring with eight points each.
Neither Radford nor Campbell had electric shooting nights, but the Highlanders rebounded their way to a close game against the best rebounding team in the conference. It was a defensive battle from the start for both teams. Birkhead and Chapman opened the scoring with three-pointers to take a brief 6-5 lead for Radford. Campbell retook a 7-6 lead to respond and Radford would keep the game within seven points until the fourth quarter.
In the second quarter the scoring ground to a halt as the two teams combined for just 17 points. Williams and Madison Roshelle provided a crucial three points in the closing minutes of the half for the Highlanders after a five minute scoring drought to make it just a 26-20 game headed into halftime.
The third quarter almost replicated the second quarter's offensive output as both teams scratched across just 11 total points in an all-out defensive battle. The Highlanders held a 6-5 scoring edge in the quarter thanks to made shots by Jackie Christ, Ashley Tudor and Vanessa Blake.
The Highlanders continued to out-rebound the Camels, but Campbell finally found their offensive footing in the final quarter of play to pull away. Birkhead and Chapman dropped late three-pointers in the closing minutes to finish the offensive attack for Radford, but it wouldn't be enough as Campbell pulled away to win 58-41.
Inside the box score the Highlanders got major contributors from the entire roster that traveled as everyone played ten or more minutes, scored points, and pulled down a rebound. Montelbano just missed her fourth straight game with five assists but still led the team with four assists. Five players pulled down four or more rebounds as the Highlanders as a team out rebounded the Camels 39-32.
NEXT UP
