LEXINGTON, Va. – Six Radford athletes set new personal records, five finals were made and three top-10 times in Radford history were notched Friday and Saturday at the VMI Keydet Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
The Highlanders were highlighted on the weekend by three performances which landed in the top 10 in school history.
Hannah Moran led the way in this category as her victory in the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:49.06 is good for second in Radford history. Moran missed the school record by just over ten seconds despite running most of the race virtually all by herself with a 24 second margin of victory. In that same race, senior
Rachel Werking took fifth place with a time of 10:26.24 which is good for the seventh fastest time in school history.
Also making her mark in the record books on Saturday was
MegAnne Gilmore. The sophomore ran the eighth fastest time in Radford history over one mile with a 5:14.23 performance, good for second in the race. Gilmore was joined in the mile by
Kayland Bond who took fifth place in the event.
Maddie Wright,
Kelsey Arnold,
Denisha Hoosier and
Shaneece Smith all made finals in various events across the two days. Wright and Arnold both made the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, with Arnold also making the final in the long jump, while Hoosier and Smith made it to the finals of the 60-meter dash. Wright and Arnold finished fourth and fifth respectively in the hurdles while Hoosier and Smith took fourth and seventh in the dash.
Arnold also set a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 5.20m (17-0.75) to make the finals while Wright set an indoor best with her jump of 5.05m (16-7).
Brianna Krug also found success on Saturday with a personal-best time of 2:24.57, good for second overall in the 800 meters.
