Men's Soccer Falls to High Point on Road

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford men's soccer team fell to High Point 5-1 in Big South Conference action at Vert Stadium on Saturday evening.

"High Point showed us tonight why they are one of the top teams in our conference," said Radford head coach Chris Barrett. "I was really pleased with our second half reaction. We came out strong and got a goal back early in the second half and had most of the play. Unfortunately, we made a mistake to give them a goal which neutralized our momentum. Again, there were many positives to take away from our second half play."

After surrendering three goals in the first half, the Highlanders (1-7-1, 0-2-0 Big South) got on the board early in the second half on a beautiful header from Griffin Gyurci. Mateo Perez Nance played the ball in off a corner kick, and Gyurci headed it in off the right post for the goal, his first of the season.

Radford did muster 10 shots on the evening, in comparison to the Panthers' 14. The visitors also had a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.

High Point (4-2-3, 2-0-1) saw two goals from Noah Holmes, including an insurance marker in the 61st minute. Panthers' keeper Holden Trent made three saves in the victory, while Radford's Bryceland Peacock recorded three saves after coming in net for the second half.

"Our young team will continue to work hard and try to cut out the early mistakes in games that are getting us behind," Barrett added. "There is still a lot to play for this season and our guys are hungry for success. We must turn our attention to Winthrop on Wednesday at home."
