Highlanders Fall to Spartans 2-0 Tuesday Night

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford women's soccer program fell to USC Upstate 2-0 in a tough match Tuesday night despite multiple offensive opportunities that were unable to find the back of the net.

The Highlanders out-shot the Spartans 16-6 on the night with multiple attacks on goal that came just short of scoring. Alexeis Kirnos had two shots on goal come close while Lilly Short also flirted with scoring with two great shots on goal. USC Upstate's goalie was stout, however, and kept Radford scoreless.

USC Upstate had both their goals come within ten minutes of each other. One came in the closing minutes of the first half as a Spartan got loose and created an open shot for the 1-0 lead. Then just a few minutes into the second half, USC Upstate got their second goal off a penalty kick.

"Total credit to Upstate, they came with a good game plan and their kids wanted it," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "They played extremely hard, and you could see they were determined to get the result tonight. In these games the one thing you can control is how tough you are and how competitive you are, and we did not do well at both of those tonight."

The Highlanders are back on the road this weekend where they will face a long-time Big South foe in UNC Asheville. Action is set to kickoff at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th.
