Traylor Flirts with History as Highlanders Roll Past Big Blue

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program bounced back in a big way Tuesday night with a dominant 93-59 victory over Bluefield State. Freshman Ashlyn Traylor flirted with history for the Highlanders as she came up just short of a triple-double, finishing the night with 15 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.

Radford began the night with four straight baskets in the paint, a theme for the night, building an 8-0 early lead that the team would never relinquish. Jackie Christ supplied six of those points as the senior had another breakout performance. Olivia Wagner and Vanessa Blake got in on the scoring fun, helping Radford score 14 straight points in the paint to open the game.

At the five-minute mark of the first quarter, Traylor drained a three-pointer for Radford's first points of the game from deep. The relentless attack continued as the Highlanders finished the first quarter with a 32-11 lead shooting at an incredible 78% overall and 67% from deep.

The second quarter was more of the same for Radford who continued to break a pesky Bluefield State press. The Big Blue made it difficult, on every Highlander possession, to get past midcourt. Once past midcourt, Radford showed no hesitation in continuing to amass a 63-31 lead at the halftime horn. Emma Fox played a part in that offensive burst, scoring her first points of the season as the seconds ticked down in the half.

Traylor opened the scoring for Radford in the second half as the team would "cool down" to shoot just 50% for the rest of the game. With the lead as high as 42 for Radford and just ten minutes remaining, the game was all but sealed over the final quarter.

While the turnover bug bit harder in the final quarter, the Highlanders were able to finish strong for the eventual 93-59 win. The 34-point victory is the largest for the Highlanders since defeating USC Upstate by 41 in 2019. Four Highlanders including Traylor, Christ, Rachel LaLonde and Blake all finished with double-digit points while Traylor and LaLonde ended the night with solid double-doubles.

TRAYLOR GETS IT DONE ON ALL FRONTS
Tonight was another fantastic performance by the Franklin, Ind. native Traylor. Her 15 points marked the fourth time in five games the freshman has recorded double-digit points and her 11 rebounds tonight secured the first double-double of her career. While the nine assists had her just short of the elusive triple-double, Traylor also recorded a pair of blocks and steals on the night to light up the box score.

CHRIST SETS NEW CAREER HIGH
After setting a career-high in points earlier this season with 12 at Kentucky, Christ would not settle for that mark and broke through it tonight with a new career-high. The senior leader finished with 17 points for Radford, a team-best mark on 8-10 shooting. Christ also added a block on the night, her first of the season, to add to her dominance in the paint.

The Highlanders will enjoy their Thanksgiving holiday before returning to the Dedmon Center for another home game later this week. Radford plays host to UNC Wilmington this Sunday, November 27th for a 2 p.m. tip on ESPN+.
