HARRISONBURG, Va. – Radford (1-3) fell to James Madison Wednesday afternoon 6-1 despite many close individual finishes.
In doubles play the Highlanders and Dukes fought in tight contests in two of the three courts. Robert Hagen and Aditya Balsekar picked up another win on court three 6-3 while Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva battled on court one to decide who got the doubles point. Taramonlis and Silva fought back to tie the set at 5-all, but James Madison took the final two points to win 7-5 and take the 1-0 lead in the match.
Singles play was just as intense between the two squads. After James Madison took court two in two sets, both Konstantinos Raptis and Taramonlis fought back after dropping their first set to force third sets. Taramonlis' comeback was especially special as he came back from down 5-1 in the second set to force a tiebreaker he ultimately won.
In the third set Raptis was unable to complete the comeback to make it a 3-0 James Madison lead. While Taramonlis continued his comeback attempt on court one, Silva won easily 6-1, 6-1 on court four to make it just a 3-1 lead. Taramonlis and his opponent traded points throughout the third set forcing a tiebreaker that James Madison won 7-3 to clinch the match.
In the final two singles courts James Madison would take both, giving them the 6-1 victory.
