Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tudor and LaLonde’s Career Nights Not Enough Against High Point

RADFORD, VA. – The Radford Women's Basketball program fell to High Point 57-65 Wednesday night in what was a close game throughout the entire 40 minutes. Ashley Tudor and Rachel LaLonde both finished the game with career-high nights, Tudor in points and LaLonde in rebounds.

Jackie Christ got Radford started to open the game with an and-one that ended a 4-0 High Point run. Bridget Birkhead briefly gave the Highlanders a 5-4 lead, but the Panthers were able to respond with a three-pointer to take back the lead. High Point and Radford continued to trade baskets with each other until Kyanna Morgan hit back-to-back jumpers that gave the Highlanders a 14-12 lead six minutes into the first quarter.

That ignited a run for the Highlanders as they would outpace the Panthers 14-1 kicked off by Tudor and Carmen Williams. The outburst of offense allowed Radford to take a 20-13 lead into the second quarter. High Point responded immediately in the second quarter sinking two three-pointers to shrink the lead back to one.

When Radford needed a response, Tudor stepped up and sunk a three-pointer to give Radford back a four-point lead at 27-23 with three minutes left in the half. Radford would finish the first half with a 30-26 lead. LaLonde was already well on her way to a career rebounding night as she totaled 12 first half rebounds.

The intensity continued into the third quarter for Radford and Williams made sure of that sinking a jumper in the opening seconds of the half. High Point just would not go away, though, matching Radford at every shot and keeping the game close. High Point was finally able to retake the lead at the five-minute mark in the third, but Tudor gave it back to Radford with a pair of made free throws with three minutes remaining. A couple of threes by High Point in the closing minutes paved the way for a 50-45 Panthers lead headed into the fourth quarter.

LaLonde started the fourth quarter off with a quick basket for the Highlanders, but three-point shooting continued to be excellent for the Panthers as the Highlanders were never able to reclaim the lead. Tudor continued to produce scoring seven more points, but no other Highlander made more than one basket in the quarter as High Point held on to win 65-57.

Inside the box score, Tudor had a career night in the point column finishing with 19 points and nearly became the first Highlander to score 20 points in a game this season. LaLonde also pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds and just missed being the first Highlander to pull down 20 rebounds since Sydney Nunley last did it in 2019. The Highlanders out rebounded the Panthers by a whopping 13 rebounds but it was not enough to overcome some costly turnovers. Ultimately, three-point shooting was the biggest difference maker, with the Panthers collecting 18 more points than Radford from deep while shooting at a 14% better clip.

The Highlanders will hit the road this weekend to face-off with Gardner-Webb. The game is set to tip at 4:30 p.m. and will be a rematch of an early-January meeting between the two squads.
