BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – Despite three extra-base hits from shortstop
David Bryant, the Radford baseball team was unable to contain the high-powered East Tennessee State offense, falling 11-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Stadium.
It was certainly an impressive homecoming for Bryant, as the Johnson City native went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. In the eight inning, Bryant launched a two-run homer to right field, his first longball of the season.
The Highlanders (5-11) had a difficult time with the ETSU lineup, yielding 11 runs on 12 hits. Radford also hurt their own cause with three errors and four wild pitches.
ETSU (11-3) struck early with two runs in the first inning off an RBI single from Noah Webb and a wild pitch. The Highlanders did not get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning, when Bryant hit a two-out double to center. Catcher
Julian Rojas then drove him in with a perfectly placed single to the left side to make it a 2-1 game.
However, the Buccaneers did most of their damage in the middle and late innings. Jared Paladino checked in with a three-run double in the fifth, while Justin Hanvey had an RBI base hit in the seventh to extend the lead to 7-1. In total, ETSU scored four runs in the seventh inning.
Starter
Zach Davidson (0-1) took the loss, as he pitched one inning and gave up two runs. In total, Radford used nine pitchers on the afternoon.
