RICHMOND, Va. – The Radford women's track & field team opened their 2022 outdoor season Friday at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the Richmond Spiders. Three Highlanders recorded top-10 performances in school history with several more notching personal records.

In total, 14 Radford women competed at the meet across 10 events.

Bayle Wood and
Austin Swallow opened the day by notching the third- and fourth-best distances in school history in the javelin throw with their marks of 37.50m and 36.53m, respectively. Swallow also recorded a personal best in the hammer throw on the day.

Chloe Wellings kept her momentum going from the indoor season in the 1,500m. Wellings time of 4:31.90 ranks second in Radford history and represents a near 13-second improvement on her previous best. Wellings led five Highlanders under five minutes in the event including
Abby Seigel who did so for the first time.

"This was a great opening meet for us," said Director of Track & Field
Shelli Sayers. "I'm very proud of the javelin throwers and where they are right now. We were fortunate to get great weather coming out of spring break and I'm looking forward to building on today and heading to Winthrop next week."

After a strong start to the outdoor season, the Highlanders will return to action Friday and Saturday, March 25-26 at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
