N. CHARLESTON, S.C. – Dylan Stewart delivered the game-winning walk-off single as Radford dropped the series finale at Charleston Southern 6-5 in ten innings on Sunday afternoon.
With one out and runners at second and third, Stewart singled to third base as Ajay Sczepkowski came home to score the winning run. With the victory, the Buccaneers took the series two games to one.
The Highlanders (6-13) led for nearly the entirety of the contest. The visitors scored a run in the first inning thanks to an RBI groundout by DH
James Taussig, who started for the second straight day. That plated
Cameron Pittman, putting Radford ahead 1-0.
In the fifth inning, with the score tied at one, second baseman
Ty Dooley knocked a single to right field that plated Pittman again. Radford then took advantage of a fielding error by Charleston Southern's first baseman to go up 3-1.
Taussig was able to put together another productive at-bat in the seventh, hitting a sacrifice fly to score third baseman
Zack Whitacre that put the Highlanders ahead 5-1.
But Charleston Southern (10-12) rallied from there, scoring four runs in the eighth inning. The comeback was sparked by a two-run homer by Hayden Harris which cut the lead in half.
Radford starter
Zach Davidson pitched 3.1 innings, allowing just one run and striking out three Buccaneers. Freshman reliever
John Holobetz was tagged for three runs, but he did pitch three scoreless frames and helped bridge the game to the late innings.
