BOX SCORE BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford baseball team dropped a midweek game at Virginia Tech by a score of 10-3 on Tuesday evening at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
The loss overshadowed a three-hit day from second baseman
Ty Dooley, who recorded his third consecutive multi-hit game.
In the first inning, Dooley got Radford (6-14) on the board with a single to right that scored center fielder
Cameron Pittman. Pittman had led off the game with a walk — his 16th of the season — and then stole second base to put himself in scoring position.
Later in the frame, left fielder
Paul Moore laced a single up the middle to bring Dooley home and give Radford a 2-0 advantage.
From there, however, it was all Virginia Tech. The Hokies (13-6) scored the next ten runs of the game, touching home plate in every inning but the fourth. Sam Tackett led a balanced Hokies' attack with two RBI, including a solo home run in the second.
The Highlanders did scratch across a run in the top of the ninth, as third baseman
Zack Whitacre drove in catcher
Bradlee Preap with an RBI single.
Ryan Kennedy (1-2) was the winning pitcher for Tech, pitching four shutout innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
