Radford Notches 5-2 Victory Over UNC Asheville

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (10-5, 4-0 BSC) secured their tenth win of the season Sunday afternoon 5-2 against UNC Asheville, the program's fourth straight Big South win.

The doubles point was tightly contested between the two squads. Konstantinos Raptis and Guilherme Severin gave the Highlanders the edge thanks to a 6-3 win on court two with the duo dominating throughout. On courts one and three, Radford needed a comeback.

Aditya Balsekar and Robert Hagen trailed on court three but battled back to make it a 5-5 match late and then took two straight points to clinch the doubles point and put Radford up 1-0. Andres Silva and Demis Taramonlis were trailing on court one 5-2 but went on an incredible run to force a tiebreaker that went unfinished.

In singles play Radford was quick in dispatching its foe in order to clinch the match. Taramonlis got things started with an impressive 6-4, 6-2 win on the top flight. Raptis made it a 3-0 lead for the Highlanders as he battled his way to a strong 7-5, 6-0 win.

Balsekar was the clinching court for the Highlanders taking court five 6-3, 6-2. The singles victories weren't over as Hagen held on to win on court six 6-0, 7-6(1) and give Radford its fifth point of the match.

The Highlanders are the first Big South team to record four conference victories this spring and remain one of just two unbeaten teams with Campbell who also owns a 3-0 record. Balsekar's win was his tenth straight of the season and makes it his second straight season recording a double-digit win streak. His 12 wins rank second on the team as the sophomore continues to impress.
