Radford Remains Unbeaten in Big South Play with 4-3 Win Over Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Radford (11-5, 5-0 BSC) took down Big South preseason favorites Presbyterian Sunday afternoon with a huge 4-3 victory to remain unbeaten in conference play.

The afternoon began with a crucial doubles point. Guilherme Severin and Konstantinos Raptis continued their hot streak with a dominant 6-2 win on court two. The two remaining courts were close up until the finish.

Aditya Balsekar and Robert Hagen were the victorious pair that clinched the 1-0 lead for the Highlanders, winning in a tiebreaker on court three 7-6(3). Andres Silva and Demis Taramonlis were also up 6-5 and had match point before stopping.

In singles play the Blue Hose immediately put the pressure on by taking courts three and six to gain a 2-1 advantage over the Highlanders. Raptis was able to get revenge as he was dominant on court five for Radford, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to tie the match at two-all.

Radford was then able to gain a 3-2 advantage thanks to Balsekar who continues to be a corner stone of Highlander victories. Balsekar moved up to court four today and took home a huge 6-4, 6-4 win. Focus then turned to the top two remaining courts where Silva and Taramonlis both had moved into third sets.

Taramonlis had dropped his first set of the afternoon 4-6 but did not give in battling back to force a third set. Taramonlis outlasted his opponent and showed some strong endurance by completely dismantling his opponent during the third set securing the clinching court for the Highlanders by winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Taramonlis is coming off winning his first Big South player of the week award and now has 10 singles wins to his name this spring and a perfect 5-0 conference record. Balsekar's wins streak is now up to 13 straight singles matches while Raptis now has an ongoing streak of three straight singles and doubles wins.
