Radford Drops Midweek Contest to Virginia Tech 10-3

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford baseball team dropped a midweek game at Virginia Tech by a score of 10-3 on Tuesday evening at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
The loss overshadowed a three-hit day from second baseman Ty Dooley, who recorded his third consecutive multi-hit game.
In the first inning, Dooley got Radford (6-14) on the board with a single to right that scored center fielder Cameron Pittman. Pittman had led off the game with a walk — his 16th of the season — and then stole second base to put himself in scoring position.
Later in the frame, left fielder Paul Moore laced a single up the middle to bring Dooley home and give Radford a 2-0 advantage.
From there, however, it was all Virginia Tech. The Hokies (13-6) scored the next ten runs of the game, touching home plate in every inning but the fourth. Sam Tackett led a balanced Hokies' attack with two RBI, including a solo home run in the second.
The Highlanders did scratch across a run in the top of the ninth, as third baseman Zack Whitacre drove in catcher Bradlee Preap with an RBI single.
Ryan Kennedy (1-2) was the winning pitcher for Tech, pitching four shutout innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
NOTABLE STATS
The Highlanders will resume conference play as they tangle with USC Upstate this weekend at Carter Memorial Stadium. First pitch is set for Friday at 4 p.m.
