WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior
Ryan Neil put together the best 36-hole stretch of his season to lead the Radford men's golf team on the first day of UNCW's Seahawk Intercollegiate on Sunday.
The North Bay, Ontario, Canada native shot 1-under par (71) in the first round, highlighted by an eagle on the 8
th hole as he neared the end of his first trip through the course. He then carried that momentum into the second round, shooting an even-better 4-under par 68 for his best performance this year.
Neil ends the day in fourth place out of 82 golfers on the individual leaderboard and is just two strokes back of the frontrunner heading into Monday's final round.
Navigating some tough conditions,
Bryce Corbett recorded an uncharacteristic seven bogies and one double bogey in the first round to shoot a 79. The two-time Big South Golfer of the Week bounced back strong on his return trip however, sinking three birdies and tallying just two bogies to shooting 1-under and climb 21 spots on the leaderboard.
Nicholas Taliaferro,
Tyler Hull, and
Hayden Miller experienced similar peaks and valleys on the day, each improving from one round to the next. Taliaferro shot 78-74—152, Hull shot 82-76—158, and Miller shot 83-78—161.
The Highlanders jumped four spots in the team standings to enter the top-10, with a good chance to move up again tomorrow.
