Radford Thumps Tennessee Tech 6-1

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (5-4) picked up their second win of the week Saturday afternoon against Tennessee Tech 6-1.

In doubles play the Highlanders only needed one court as Tennessee Tech was a man down, and the team got that court thanks to Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva. Taramonlis and Silva were dominant in their 6-1 win on court one to give Radford the 1-0 lead.

Tennessee Tech wasn't able to field a player for court six, so the Highlanders began with a 2-0 lead going into singles play. There were tight battles on all five courts, but Aditya Balsekar was the first to finish for Radford on court five winning 6-0, 7-5. Balsekar trailed 1-3 in the second set before he was able to go on an impressive stretch to avoid a third set.

Taramonlis clinched the match for the Highlanders, also winning in straight sets on the top flight 6-3, 6-4. Silva picked up another win on court three for Radford, winning 7-6(4), 7-5. Guilherme Severin had a huge comeback win on court two to wrap up singles play as he came back to win 1-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(4).

The Highlanders will hit the road for Orlando, Fla. to take part in five matches for their spring break trip. Radford first faces Ferris State on Tuesday, March 8th.
